My experience with a Tim Kaine door-to-door guy

This weekend, while watching the 1984 Patrick Swayze hit Red Dawn I heard someone knocking on my door. Typically I don't answer the door on weekends when I don't expect someone -- Mormons and jay-dubs and all. But for some reason I got up, answered the door and was greeted by a young man taking from the Tim Kaine campaign who wanted to ask me a few questions. I said sure. Below follows a transcript of our conversation.

TIM KAINE GUY: Hello, I'm with the Tim Kaine campaign, and I'd like to ask you a few questions.

ME: Sure go ahead.

TKG: If the election were to happen right now who would you vote for?

ME: Russ Potts.

TKG: Hmmm...I don't have a box to check for that...
TKG: <scribbles something in the margin>
TKG: What are the most important issues for you in this election?

ME: Umm, probably taxes and the budget.

TKG: Hmmm...
TKG: <scribbles some more in the margin>
TKG: Sooooo, you don't really like Tim Kaine?

ME: Well it's not that I don't like him.

TKG: Uhhh. Cool. Sooooo, do you like Governor Warner?

ME: Yeah sure, everyone likes Governor Warner.

TKG: Yeah he seems to be pretty popular. Ok well thanks for your time.

ME: Can I have one of your flyers there?

TKG: Oh yeah sure, talk to you later.

Annnd scene.

I chuckled to myself that answers of "Russ Potts" and "budget and taxes" weren't on his little check list. If taxes and budgets aren't issues, what are? JEEZ.

Also, he seemed kind of un-enthused about the whole thing. Overall he didn't impress me enough to think about voting for Kaine.

I had the same kid of experience with a Kaine phone caller. Like the kid was totally doing it as a civics class project or because mommy's a precinct captain or something. I told her that I was undecided, and she said, "ok, well I hope you vote for TK."
